Day 7 – Ephesians 1v6

…to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

The desire to be accepted is a powerful motivator.  As a young person I did and said many things that were just plain foolish and regrettable simply because I wanted to be accepted by others.  All of us have that same inner desire – to be accepted!

To be accepted by our spouse, family, friends, work colleagues; to be accepted within the community, even to be accepted by people we have only known for a few minutes.  On the one hand we may do things that we know are out of character just to fit in or to make ourselves acceptable to others. On the other hand if we fear being rejected by others we may retreat and allow depression to set into our spirits.

The first thing we must understand though is this – that the desire to be accepted is not ungodly in and of itself, it is simply the desire to BELONG.  That very desire is part of God’s gift to mankind; He wants us to be fulfilled in our need to belong.  When channelled correctly the desire to belong will result in security and a deep sense of purpose.  When channelled incorrectly that same desire will leave us empty and will have us chasing after the wind; pursuing temporary pleasures, embarking on grandiose plans and setting our greatest hopes on the slightest promise of a fulfilling relationship.

The truth for us in Christ however is that we are already accepted, right now!  We actually BELONG to God, we are His, and in a broader sense we belong to the family of God – the Church.  That belonging and acceptance is not dependent on what we have done, or not done, where we have come from, or who our parents are.  It is founded solely on what Christ has achieved for us and the faith that we have placed on the finished work of the Cross.

Now a person may feel that nothing ever good happens to them; then suddenly they become the recipients of a large sum of money perhaps inherited from an obscure relative.  As far as the inheritance is concerned the deed has been done, the decision has been made; that person has been favoured.  However unless that person wakes from their apathy and smells the coffee of a new day and actually accepts who they are in the light of that inheritance, that new position of favour will not do them the slightest bit of good.  So it is with us!

We are totally accepted in Christ, nothing more needs to be done to make us more accepted.  Our inheritance is in and through Christ Jesus and has even been signed by His own BLOOD, an eternal covenant between Him and the Father, witnessed by the power of the Holy Spirit. What does that covenant say?  That all who look to the finished work of the Cross accomplished by the One Mediator Jesus Christ, would receive complete and total pardon for all acts of treason against the Majesty in heaven and hence forth be given the title CHILD of GOD, HOLY, RIGHTEOUS WITHOUT FAULT, FULLY ACCEPTED in and by the BELOVED SON, and given the right to receive the LIVING and ABIDING Holy Spirit of Grace to dwell within them FOREVER!

Now the Saint who understands this amazing truth of who they are in Christ will not have need to follow the crowd and they will not need the approval of others to affirm their value; neither will they be offended by the slightest offence, or be concerned about the opinions of others towards them AND neither will they keep a record of other peoples misgivings.  In short, if we realise that we are ACCEPTED by the God of the Universe, then that is all that matters, that is what counts. Our confidence rests on that rock of immoveable truth. Nothing that the world, the flesh or the Devil may throw at us can cause us to stumble when our view of ourselves is founded on God the Father’s view of us… FAVOURED, BLESSED, ADOPTED and ACCEPTED!

Heavenly Father, we thank you that we do not need to chase after experiences, people or things. The only opinion that matters is Your opinion and You have told us that to the praise of the glory of Your grace, YOU have made us accepted in the Beloved.  Our security today and every day is in YouYOU are all we need and all we need is in YOU.

7 Therefore accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us, to the glory of God.
Romans 15
19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,
20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh,  21 and having a High Priest over the house of God,  22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
Hebrews 10

24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, 25 To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever. Amen.   Jude 1
