Heavenly Father, thank you, that through the work of Your SON Jesus Christ, Satan has no legal power over my life anymore. We thank you that because of The BLOOD we are free and we are restored. We praise because our Redeemer lives and because He lives we live, now and forever. Blessed be the Name of the LORD.Amen.
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace
Scripture tells us in Hebrews 9v22 that without the shedding of blood there can be no remission of sin. That may seem strange to a 21st Century mindset. Why does someone have to die in order for sins to be forgiven? Well if as many believe, that this life is all there is and when we die that’s it we just become compost, then there would be no need of such a sacrifice because there would be no need of forgiveness! If however, as the Bible asserts, we all have an eternal soul which is the consequence of being made in the image of God then being forgiven is essential and for that someone has to die, someone has to shed their blood!
Now when I say someone, I don’t mean anyone, I mean a Deliverer who would be able to fulfil the terms of the Genesis 3v15 covenant that we previously studied. One who would not only deliver us from Adam’s curse but also deliver to the Father that which Adam lost: sonship! To achieve both of these objectives the Deliverer has to be perfect in every way. In fact in order to regain that which was lost such a Deliverer would need to be as perfect as Adam was before he lost his privileged state, but because of the principle of redemption that we studied on Day 8 the Deliverer must actually possess a higher level of perfection than was even possible for Adam before he rebelled, because the redemption price is always higher. Such perfection can only be found in God, so the Deliverer would need to be both Man and God in order to accomplish the objectives and to meet the redemption price; and since the penalty for Adam’s rebellion was to experience death then the Deliverer would have to suffer death too. But not just any death, He would have to die at the hands of those He was redeeming, and for that to be possible He would have to shed His own BLOOD in order to pay the redemption price at the hands of those He was redeeming.
Remember our study of Passover yesterday – the blood of the perfect Passover lamb was shed in order to restore God’s people to their promised earthly inheritance, which was all the land promised to Abraham, the land of Canaan. The Passover lambs were therefore sufficient redemption price in this case because the object of deliverance was an earthly inheritance. But since the objective of the Genesis 3v15 deliverance was to restore us to heaven then the Deliverer had to come from heaven and thus the price was infinitely higher. Thus the BLOOD of the perfect Lamb of God, the One Who is both God and Man was shed in order to restore God’s people to their promised heavenly inheritance, lost by the first Adam, regained by the Last Adam – Jesus Christ.
So the shedding of Christ’s blood was the very means by which the Father fulfilled the Genesis 3 covenant, Jesus was and is the Promised Seed who crushed Satan’s head by defeating sin and death on the Cross. By shedding His Own Blood Jesus also became the perfect Redeemer because by being sinless yet paying for the sin of the world at the hands of sinners He utterly destroyed Satan’s claim on Adam’s descendents! This is because death is the consequence of sin; the wages of death is sin, Romans 6v23. Yet Jesus was sinless so death could not have mastery over Him. Listen, Jesus did not die on the Cross because He was crucified or as a consequence of the spear thrust through His side. He is God and He is sinless, He could have hung there forever and a day and not die because death only comes to those who sin! Jesus died though because He yielded up His Spirit.
Luke 23v46 states… And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.'” Having said this, He breathed His last. Even the Centurion charged with overseeing His crucifixion at that point declared that Jesus was the Son of God because he realised that His death was supernatural. As Jesus voluntarily died for us The Father accepted His Son’s perfect and sinless sacrifice as ample payment for the sin of the entire human race, because as one who was perfect lost sonship through sin – Adam; only One who was perfect could regain sonship on behalf of Adam’s likeness through sinless obedience – even death on a Cross, Philippians 2v8. And again in Romans 5v19, For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.
Legally the Genesis 3 REDEMPTION clause was paid by the Blood of Christ. However the Genesis 3 CURSE was also legally annulled because just as Adam lost his position of sonship because he violated God’s WORD, so Satan lost the power of mastery and death over Adam’s race because he violated God’s WORD, by crucifying the only perfect Man that had ever lived – Jesus Christ! As the Scriptures put it succinctly in 1 Corinthians 2v8 had they (spiritual rulers) known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
Thus through the BLOOD OF CHRIST forgiveness has been made available to ALL. All that is who choose to receive it! Forgiveness is available to all who recognise that they are made in the likeness of Adam, all who have gone the same way as their forefather and have sinned. All who come to the humble conclusion that they need a Pass-over, they need a Deliverer, they need forgiveness – to them God has declared that they are Children of God, that they are forgiven and under the BLOOD of the SON of GOD.
So without the BLOOD of Christ we would have nothing! We would still be in bondage to sin and to our enemy Satan. Without the BLOOD our message would be nothing other than good advice – do unto others as you would have them do unto us. Without the BLOOD we would still be separated from God the Father and without any hope of being restored to our intended position in the universe – that of privileged sons and daughters of God Himself. But PRAISE THE LORD we have all this and more besides precisely because Jesus Christ, God’s Son shed His BLOOD for us. So let’s go on singing, talking preaching, discussing and teaching about the BLOOD because without it we would have absolutely nothing!
OUR PRAYER FOR TODAY
The Genesis 3 Covenant/Contract The REDEPTION CLAUSE verse 15
14 So the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life. 15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.” 16 To the woman He said: “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you.” 17 Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life. 18 Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field. 19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
17 For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.) 18 Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. 19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.
20 Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, 21 so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
45 And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. 46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven. 48 As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. 49 And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man.
