…and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power
which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,
In yesterday’s devotional we looked at the DUNAMIS power of God and how it is displayed in creation, miracles and healing and most importantly the salvation of our souls. In today’s verse another NT Greek word is used for ‘mighty power’,’ KRATOS, which means dominion power and refers to God’s continuous and Self-sustaining, All-sufficient power. In human terms it was the power wielded by sovereign kings over their kingdoms and their subjects. Such power is now all but obsolete in the modern era because the kingdoms of this world rise and fall and morph. However the Kingdom of God is always on the rise, it can never fall, and does not change, so KRATOS power is alive and well in God’s Kingdom and interestingly our verse shows us that it is directly related to the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The implication is straight forward enough – death has dominion over all mankind, even kings, BUT it has no dominion over CHRIST! On the contrary JESUS CHRIST has complete dominion over death! In 1 Corinthians 15v20-22 the apostle Paul writes, “But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead.” For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. The cross and the resurrection go hand in hand, one cannot succeed without the other, for by the CROSS we receive forgiveness and through the RESURRECTION we receive eternal life. Therefore this verse is speaking of God’s KRATOS dominion power in relation to both events.
The subject of dominion is introduced at a very early stage in the Gospel narrative. In Genesis 1v27-28 we read, “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.'” God has dominion over the whole universe but He specifically ceded dominion of the earth to Adam in the form of guardian stewardship. In other words God made Adam not only in His image, and not only as the highest form of created being, but God made Adam The Protector of this beautiful planet. It was Adam’s role under God to rule this world with care and concern and if necessary to protect it from intruders and usurpers, those who would corrupt this earth. Adam had full DOMINION of the earth. However Adam failed in his role as Protector and allow the usurper Satan to lure him into a trap that resulted in Adam rebelling against his Creator and ceding his God given dominion to none other than Satan when he became a slave to SIN.
Now as we noted from Day 8
Genesis 3v15 was the defining moment that God declared His intention to redeem mankind and to reclaim what Adam had lost – in this case dominion
. God clearly stated to the usurper Satan in that verse that I (GOD) will put enmity between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel. In the fullness of time Satan bruised the SEED – Christ, by crucifying the LORD on the CROSS, but Christ bruised (CRUSHED) Satan’s head when HE rose from the dead!
So the resurrection was the very means by which GOD through HIS SON by the DUNAMIS power of the HOLY SPIRIT reclaimed the KRATOS DOMINION power of the earth. A dominion that the Father has now been given totally to the SON Who now sits at the Right Hand of the Father above all rule and authority, and Who has in turn given it to US! So we can see that the whole purpose of God was in fact to reclaim kratos dominion of the earth back to its original intended purpose – the seed of Adam, now those who are the children of God through faith in the Second and Last Adam – Jesus Christ.
In Matthew 5v5 Jesus said, “Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.” Jesus is specifically speaking here of the age in which there will be a renewed earth in which those who have been humble enough to follow HIM during their lifetimes on this SIN stained planet will have joy enough to spend eternity with HIM on a re-claimed, re-deemed, re-created planet. In the meantime God is looking to His people to exercise CHRIST’S dominion resurrection power to advance God’s kingdom into the hearts of men and women, young people and children everywhere. This is why God’s Kingdom is still future tense in its ultimate fulfilment of the restoration of this earth BUT present tense in its daily outworking to restore the human soul and mind back to its Creator. God wants us to have eternal dominion of the earth again, but before that can fully transpire we must by faith come under HIS DOMINION, so that HIS kratos power can transform us into the image of Christ and make us ready to rule with Christ for eternity. Just let that sink in for a moment and then take this in –
Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”
And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.
He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.
OUR PRAYER TODAY
Heavenly Father, thank you for the exceeding greatness of Your power toward us who believe, according to the working of Your mighty power which You worked in Christ when You raised Him from the dead and seated Him at Your right hand in the heavenly places. Thank you that through the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, Your Son, by the dunamis power of the Holy Spirit, that You have reclaimed dominion kratos power for us. Enable us to be meek, to walk humbly before our God that we may inherit the earth. Bring every area of our lives under Your dominion so that we may be prepared and ready to serve and rule with Christ for eternity.
52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” 55 “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15
8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. 12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors–not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.
20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. 21 To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.
