Day 24 Ephesians 1v21

…far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.

Have you noticed how the Name of Jesus is used by so many as a swear word?  No other name is used in this way, so why the precious Name of our LORD?  Well this verse answers that question, so let’s take a closer look at its message.  In yesterday’s study we learned that Jesus is seated in the heavenly realm at the right hand of God, far above all principalities, powers, might and dominions.  In other words Jesus is seated at the place which gives Him total AUTHORITY, superseding the authority of all the spiritual forces of darkness, that of all world leaders, over all the armies of this earth, over all politicians, dictators, all earthly kingdoms, and over all the men and women who are considered to be the great and the good of this world – Jesus reigns over all.  He is also seated above every name in this present age and in the age to come.  That means He reigns over every name that seeks mankind’s concern, attention, devotion and worship. He also reigns supreme over every false religion, over all the theories of men, over every ism: humanism, capitalism, communism, atheism, mysticism, paganism, and above every name given to disease and sickness both physical and mental – Jesus is over all!

Sometimes it may seem otherwise.  It may appear that the wicked prosper and that the innocent are denied justice, that the good die young, and that the oppressed are deserted.  From our vantage point all of these things seem to be chaotic loose ends that make no sense at all.  But perhaps that is just the issue, we are observing from a very limited and earth bound perspective.  But if we have ever taken note of a fine tapestry in a museum or great house we will no doubt have been amazed by the evident skill and artistry of its creators and appreciated its beauty and its ability to affect the environment in which it is situated. However, if we were to turn that same tapestry around so that its face was now hidden from us and its back became the focus what would we see? A vague and rough picture full of loose ends that at its best seem just like a chaotic mess!  In Ecclesiastes 3v11 we read, “He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.”  God knows exactly what He is doing, have no fear the end result is going to be beautiful.  As Chris Peach, our evangelist, often reminds us, “If it is not good, it is not the end because the end is good!”

In Romans 8v28-29 we read, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son.”  This verse not only confirms the previous statement of FAITH that God is working to make all things beautiful in His time, but it tells us exactly what the finished tapestry is going to look like – it will be the picture of the SON formed by the lives of all the saints, all their tribulations and trials and victories, every aspect of their lives will formulate an eternal tapestry that will hang in Heaven’s Grand Hall forever!

So the reason we can have such confidence in this life despite its circumstances is not because we are living in self-denial, but simply because we know that Jesus Christ is in full control.  This present world is set against the ruler-ship of Christ and against those who have chosen to follow His rule.  But we know that all the whinging, complaining, resistance and outright rebellion that the world can and does muster against God’s Kingdom rule will ultimately be to no avail. We know this because like impatient readers we have turned to the last chapter in The Book and have discovered that Jesus Christ HAS WON, DOES WIN, AND WILL WIN, and because He wins WE WIN!  Remember yesterday’s study Day 23 Revelation 3v20, “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.”

So why are so many seemingly hell bent on using Christ’s Name as a swear word?  It is because Satan hates that Name!  He knows that the very Name of JESUS is the One to which he must still bow and utterly bend and confess as the Name of the SON OF GOD and KING OF KINGS.  Anyone that has the habit of using that precious Name of JESUS as a swear word has proved just one thing to themselves – that they still belong to Satan because they speak just like him.  They may even appear to be otherwise good people, they may even be religious, they may even go to a church, but they are as far from Christ as it is possible to be, they are outside of the Kingdom of God, at present without Christ because their speech reveals that they are without Christ – “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” (Luke 6v45).   This is a serious condition to be found in, and if we have ever found ourselves using the Name of Jesus as a swear word or even an exclamation mark then the Spirit of God is not in us. We must repent, turn to God, ask His forgiveness and truly ask the LORD Jesus to be the Lord of our lives, so that our actions, our words and even our thoughts are in line with His will for us.

At the Name of Jesus every knee will one day bow, so let us willingly choose to honour and glorify that Name today with our whole being…

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2v9-11
Heavenly Father, thank you that You have seated Your Son Jesus Christ far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.  Thank you LORD that You work all things for our good and that by the power of the Holy Spirit we are being transformed into the image of the Son.   Let the words of our mouths and the meditation of our hearts be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, our strength and our Redeemer.
24 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power.  25 For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet.
1 Corinthians 15
15 Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!”
Revelation 11
43 “For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit.  44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush.  45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.  46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do the things which I say?
Luke 6

32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.  33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.  34 Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.  36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
Matthew 12
12 Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults.  13 Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression.  14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.
Psalm 19
18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, Who is Spirit.
2 Corinthians 3
